Group Benefits is searching for a Group Life Claims Examiner. In this role, you will ensure the accuracy and timeliness of the claims adjudication process, as well as ensure all contractual obligations with our clients are met. The right candidate will bring strong interpersonal and organizational skills, an eye for detail, and a passion for providing quality execution.
Responsibilities:
Review, investigate and make payment determination on group life claims. Apply appropriate contractual provisions which may include and payment calculations. Provide secondary claims review and payment approval support for Claims team.
Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations (HIPAA, NAIC and ERISA), legal guidelines (which may include reviewing/interpreting individual state statutes; e.g., UTMA Guidelines, Trusts, Estates, Divorce Decrees, Accelerated Death Statutes, ACLI Interest Requirements), and internal claim management procedures. Exercise independent judgment to make decisions on rule application.
Use claims system, databases, census, OFAC, as well as applicable state lien checks, to manage and pay claims while meeting all service, timeframe, and productions standards.
Organize and manage assigned workload to meet productivity, quality, and time service standards. Maintain detailed knowledge of claims practices, policies and procedures. Work independently on escalated issues.
Communicate with internal resources as needed, including Compliance and Legal departments. Communicate with external parties such as beneficiaries, underwriters, medical professionals, third-party investigators, law enforcement personnel, and reinsurers to gather information and reach a decision regarding the claim.
Qualifications:
Bachelor''s degree in a business-related discipline or equivalent relevant experience required and at least three years' progressively responsible experience in an insurance claims, contract-oriented customer service, or legal environment.
Excellent analytical and decision making skills.
Excellent time management and organizational skills to independently organize and prioritize workload.
Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to develop/maintain relationships with colleagues, clients, beneficiaries and internal company contacts.
Knowledge of and experience with applying Group Life policies/practices and interpreting Group Life contracts/benefit provisions, as well as general knowledge of Group Benefit products preferred.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office software applications (e.g., Excel, Word).

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
