You must provide proof of vaccination on the first day of employment GENERAL DESCRIPTION The Behavioral Support Specialist will be responsible for providing social-emotional support to children in our center-based Head Start and Early Head Start programs.
The Behavioral Support Specialist will interact with children to provide the extra support they may need to be successful in classroom.
Supporting the social-emotional wellness of the children by providing positive language and positive interactions.
The Behavioral Support Specialist will utilize Trauma Informed Care to help foster a safe and supportive environment that builds positive relationships, secure attachments and overall emotional wellness of the program participants.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Social Work, Psychology, or other related health field with experience working with children with mental health and challenging behaviors or a bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology or related behavioral health field plus experience working with young children (ages 0-5) preferred.
Minimum of Associates degree in Early Childhood Education, Social work, psychology, or other related field with 2 or more years of experience working with children with mental health and challenging behaviors.
Early Childhood and/or Early Head Start or Head Start experience, or experience in a classroom setting.
Experience working with children and families with behavioral health challenges.
Trauma informed care is a plus.
Experience working with families from different socio-economic backgrounds and the ability to be culturally sensitive with every child/family.
Intermediate computer literacy including database management (TSG, Child Plus) and Microsoft Office.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills are a must.
Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic environment and adapt to changing needs and priorities is also required for this position.
Ability to travel throughout Strafford County to client's homes and different HS and EHS sites.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Develop and maintain positive, supportive relationships with HS and EHS classroom staff.
Achieve and maintain reliability in teaching practices assessment tool specific to CAPSC Head Start and Early Head Start.
Engages in interventions to include but not limited to:
play-based interventions, social skills groups, modeling.
Assists staff in supporting social-emotional activities and participation.
Provide input in the creation of individualized behavioral care plans for children.
Follow and support individualized behavioral care plans for children.
Provide teachers and parents with appropriate resources for social-emotional wellbeing.
Coordinate with Educational Coaches to plan and present small group workshops on relevant child development topics.
Collaborate with Education Managers and Coaches to help provide additional support and training for teachers.
Promote best practices in early childhood development and assessment based on Head Start Performance Standards, Creative Curriculum, State Childcare Licensing Guidelines, and other prescribed curricula used by the HS Program.
Use reflective practice and additional strategies as needed to promote positive outcomes for the teaching staff and the children they work with.
Support child, teachers, and families with following IEPs.
Continue professional growth by participating in ongoing; ECE education, training programs, Trauma Informed Care trainings, workshops/conferences as budget allows, reading articles and professional journals pertaining to ECE and HS.
Distribute latest research-based resources and materials to teaching staff.
Participate in various meetings to include program meetings and collaborative meetings with other agencies as assigned.
Report any concerns for safety, health, or non-compliance to the HS & EHS Education Managers, the HS Program Manager and/or Child & Family Services Director.
Situations that constitute imminent safety concerns for children should be reported immediately.
Perform other duties as may be assigned by supervisors that are reasonably within the scope of duties listed above.
Develop concise documentation and engage in data collection and analysis as needed.

EMPLOYMENT SCREENING Valid Driver's License and insured vehicle (100/300 minimum coverage) for use on the job or acceptable alternative, driving record check, criminal record check, randomized drug screening.
Head Start, Early Head Start, Childcare, and Home Visiting Programs are also subject to the following:
Head Start and childcare licensing requires a criminal record check and finger printing to be completed prior to employment.
An initial physical examination record, including a TB screening must be obtained within 60 days of hire, updated every three years and kept on file with Human Resources.
If a TB screening indicates high risk, results of a TB test must be kept on file including any treatment received.
An initial driving record check will be conducted.
License information will also be submitted to the agency's automobile insurance carrier.
